Policy options to accelerate distributed solar PV in Ukraine
…decentralisation in power generation can also support Ukraine in meeting its long-term decarbonisation goals, as set out in the 2030 National Energy and Climate Plan and the 2050 Energy Strategy. This report explores the current policy landscape for distributed solar PV in Ukraine and outlines three potential policy options to accelerate the deployment of this technology. It focuses on expanding the capacity of distributed solar PV to achieve the modelled results from IEA report Empowering Ukraine through a Decentralised Energy System, which outlines a pathway to rebuild and modernise Ukraine’s power sector amid ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure

Ensuring a Strong Labour Dimension for Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions
…a just energy transition for workers. The International Labour Organization (ILO) defines just transition as “greening the economy in a way that is as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone concerned, creating decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind’’. The ILO also stresses the need to respect fundamental labour principles and rights and to implement effective social dialogue. In 2015, the ILO published Just Transition Guidelines covering a range of measures: labour market policies to create new decent jobs and limit job losses, skills development, mechanisms for social dialogue, guidance on policy coherence, occupational safety and health policies…

Outlook for Biogas and Biomethane Introduction to biogas and biomethane
…common. Consumption of biogases is increasing. However, biogases are still a relatively small part of the global energy mix – representing around 3% of total modern bioenergy production. Biomethane use has increased at a rate of 20% annually over the past 5 years, although from a low base (it is currently around 1% of natural gas demand). Most markets rely on public incentives to provide support and certainty to biogas and biomethane producers. These include: production targets, supply- and demand-side incentives, and indirect support. * only available for plants under 25 GWh/year ** only available for plants under 150 kW

Electricity Mid-Year Update 2025 Emissions: Power generation CO2 emissions are plateauing
Global emissions from electricity generation rose by 1.2% in 2024, following an increase of 1.6% in 2023. Last year was even hotter than in 2023 – making it the warmest year on record – with the heat waves boosting electricity demand for cooling. Nonetheless, growth in power sector emissions showed signs of slowing down as rapid deployment of renewables constrained increases in fossil-fired generation. As this trend continues, we expect 2025 emissions to plateau and remain relatively unchanged. In 2026, we forecast a slight decline of less than 1%, as the increase in low-emissions generation depresses fossil-fired…

Energy Efficiency 2025 Executive summary
Global energy efficiency progress sees improvement in 2025, but remains off track to meet global goal Global energy efficiency progress is set to improve by 1.8% in 2025, up from around 1% in 2024. Preliminary estimates indicate that several key regions are showing some signs of stronger progress compared to their average since 2019. For example, energy intensity progress in 2025 is estimated to be over 3% in the People’s Republic of China (hereafter “China”) and over 4% in India, well above their averages in the years since 2019. In the United States and the European Union (EU…

Georgia
Georgia has developed an energy sector based largely on hydropower and fuelwood, in addition to imports of fossil fuels. It is also an important transit country for the region, with major oil and gas pipelines running across Georgian territory. Efforts are required to improve energy efficiency and capitalise on the country’s renewable energy potential.
Georgia has made solid progress in the past decade, both in improving the security of its energy supply and in transitioning to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system. Although Georgia is still confronted with many challenges in its transition to a more secure, sustainable and…- Overview

Ukraine
Ukraine is a key country for European and global energy security. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed it to fundamentally reshape its past dependence on energy imports from Russia.
As the invasion continues, Ukraine is focused on tracking large-scale energy supply disruptions and actively working to recover power and heating for civilians. It is also putting together an ambitious recovery and reconstruction plan, with a strong focus on energy security. In the medium-term, Ukraine’s energy strategy remains focused on European integration, while it aims to an energy system that is ready for a Net Zero future…- Overview

Multiple Benefits of Energy Efficiency for Business Quality and reputation
…cutting the use of waste compactors on site by 80%.Recent survey evidence confirms the scale of these effects. Among 1000 manufacturing companies across a wide range of sectors, around two-thirds report at least a medium decrease in defective production following the implementation of energy efficiency measures, and almost half report a high or very high impact. Improved energy performance is associated with better brand image and market positioning Energy efficiency can shape how firms are perceived in the market. By reducing energy use in visible and measurable ways, more efficient production can signal operational excellence and environmental responsibility…
