Oil Market Report - November 2025
…four-year low – before rebounding by $5/bbl on the view that Washington’s sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil may curtail Russian oil flows. At the time of writing, Dated was trading around $62/bbl. Imbalances Global oil market balances are looking increasingly lopsided, as world oil supply is forging ahead while oil demand growth remains modest by historical standards. At the same time, the risks to the forecast remain plentiful, with the economic repercussions of the recent tariff turmoil and the US federal government shutdown still uncertain, and the impacts of new sanctions on Russia yet to become clear…

COP28 Tripling Renewable Capacity Pledge 2025: Update
…energy at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai with the aim of keeping the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C within reach. For the first time, governments set key goals to help meet this objective, including tripling global renewable electricity capacity by the end of this decade. In June 2024, the IEA published COP28 Tripling Renewable Capacity Pledge: Tracking countries’ ambitions and identifying policies to bridge the gap, which provided a global stocktake of renewable capacity plans to assess how NDCs reflected government ambition toward the tripling pledge. This report is an update to the…

Demand and Supply Measures for the Steel and Cement Transition
The case for international co-ordination A massive scale-up of markets for transformative near-zero emissions steel and cement is needed to achieve internationally agreed net zero goals. Yet early movers on both the supply- and demand-side – that is, material producers and consumers – face substantial barriers related to high costs and risks, among other factors. This has led to relatively slow market growth for near-zero emissions materials, at a moment when reinvesting in long-lived high-emissions production could have repercussions for governments to achieve their stated climate goals. Policy makers have the opportunity to play a…

Oil Market Report - June 2025
…demand is forecast to increase by 720 kb/d in 2025. This is marginally below last month’s estimate, as weak 2Q25 deliveries in the United States and China undercut resilience elsewhere. Growth in 2026, at 740 kb/d, will be held back by a challenging economic outlook and the uptake of clean energy technologies.Global oil supply rose by 330 kb/d in May to 105 mb/d, 1.8 mb/d above a year ago. Monthly gains were evenly split between non-OPEC+ and OPEC+ as the producer alliance started unwinding some voluntary production cuts. World oil supply…

Land-Use Competition between Biodiversity and Net Zero Goals
…2023, nearly 200 countries set a target to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. Based on an assessment by the International Energy Agency (IEA), tripling the capacity of renewables globally requires allocating up to an additional 600 000 km² of land – an area the size of France – to utility-scale solar PV and onshore wind power by 2030, and 2 million km² by 2050. In parallel, the IEA estimates that demand for key energy transition minerals – cobalt, copper, graphite, lithium, nickel and rare earth elements (REEs) – is projected to increase at least fivefold by 2030, requiring more land for mining and processing these minerals. At…

Southeast Asia Indicators Handbook for Just and Inclusive Transitions
Energy demand in Southeast Asia is growing, driven by rapidly growing population and economies, industrialisation and urbanisation. Many countries in the region have set out their own national decarbonisation targets and clean energy transitions commitments.Clean energy transitions in the region present unique opportunities to deliver broad socio-economic benefits, beyond emissions reductions, such as the creation of new decent jobs, economic diversification, reduced energy poverty and improved air quality. Tracking these benefits can help ensure that all parts of society benefit from these changes. In 2024, G20 leaders endorsed ten voluntary G20 Principles for Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions…

An Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions in Colombia
…The third-largest country in Latin America and the Caribbean by population, it has seen stable economic and population growth over past decades. A large part of its energy mix is made up of fossil fuels, largely oil, while hydropower provides most electricity. Colombia has abundant untapped solar and wind resources and a strong base of clean energy potential. At the request of the Government of Colombia, the IEA has developed a roadmap to net zero by 2050 for the country. An Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions in Colombia charts a possible pathway, but not the only pathway…
