Unabated coal use drops by 99% between 2021 and 2050 in the NZE Scenario.Following the European Union ban on Russian imports, a short-lived increase in coal consumption in Europe is supplied from a variety of sources including South Africa and Colombia. The Asia Pacific region accounted for more than three-quarters of global coal imports in 2021 and this share is set to rise. Despite efforts to increase domestic production, India becomes the world…

Similarly, Australia and Colombia are expected to experience export contractions, with volumes falling by 4 Mt and 11 Mt, respectively, largely due to persistently low international coal prices that continue to undermine production economics. Furthermore, South African exports are forecast to decline modestly by 1 Mt.Looking ahead to 2030, global thermal coal trade is expected to continue its downward trajectory to a level…

In Mexico, close to 8% of all bus sales were electric in 2024, up from just above 1% in 2023. There has also been impressive growth in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, and other countries over the past few years. Another notable trend is the decline in the share of PHEVs among electric buses. In China, the share of PHEVs in total electric bus sales peaked in 2014 at around 60%, but fell to less than 1% in 2017 and close to 0% in 2024. Similarly…

Australia also recorded a modest increase, with exports rising by 3% to 209 Mt. Colombia’s thermal coal exports grew by 8%, reaching 59 Mt. In contrast, Russia’s thermal coal trade faced headwinds. Western sanctions, logistical disruptions, and declining profitability contributed to a significant decline in Russian thermal coal exports.Global trade in metallurgical coal reached an all-time high of 369 Mt in 2024, supported by strong demand from key steel…

The Standard for public reporting in the mining sector (ECRR) was published by the Colombian Commission of Mineral Resources and Reserves under the National Mining Agency in May 2018. The ECRR aims to facilitate investment in the mining industry by providing reliable and transparent information regarding both the financial value and the socioeconomic, juridical and environmental aspects of mining activity. The standard is guided by four principles: transparency, materiality, competency and impartiality. The ECRR is aligned with comparable international reporting standards for the mining industry and recognised by the Committee of Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO).
