Ensuring a Strong Labour Dimension for Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions
…a just energy transition for workers. The International Labour Organization (ILO) defines just transition as “greening the economy in a way that is as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone concerned, creating decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind’’. The ILO also stresses the need to respect fundamental labour principles and rights and to implement effective social dialogue. In 2015, the ILO published Just Transition Guidelines covering a range of measures: labour market policies to create new decent jobs and limit job losses, skills development, mechanisms for social dialogue, guidance on policy coherence, occupational safety and health policies…

COP28 Tripling Renewable Capacity Pledge 2025: Update Key Findings
New Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) show limited reflection of the pledge to triple global renewable capacity by 2030 agreed at COP28 Between COP28 and the end of COP30, only about two-thirds of NDCs have been updated (128) and fewer than half of these (53) explicitly reference the global tripling goal. Even fewer (32) contain quantifiable renewable capacity ambitions for 2030. NDCs continue to under-represent current government ambitions for installed renewable capacity by 2030 The NDC 3.0 round does not fully capture countries’ 2030 renewable capacity ambitions in all submitted NDCs. Including 2030 ambitions from previous NDC cycles, total…

Energy Technology Perspectives 2026 Supply chain risks and industrial competitiveness
…secure as its weakest link. No major change in the security of global clean energy technology supply chains is likely before the end of the current decade, based on committed manufacturing and mining projects and projected market trends based on today’s stated policy settings. The impact of Chinese clean energy technology manufacturing companies extends beyond the country’s borders. Chinese firms account for a large portion of the production capacity located outside China in the solar PV industry. Such high market concentration can create risks, particularly in the event of major firms facing financial difficulties, labour disputes or being…

The energy security case for tackling gas flaring and methane leaks dataset
Substantial gas resources currently are being produced that do not make it to market because they are lost to flaring and leaks across the oil and gas supply chain. Reducing flaring, venting and methane leaks would offer immediate relief to gas markets and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Multiple Benefits of Energy Efficiency for Business Health and well-being
Energy efficiency can improve working conditions, increase employee productivity and reduce sick leave Energy efficiency improvements can enhance working environments and worker health. By reducing waste heat, air pollutants and other process inefficiencies, they lower health and safety risks while improving comfort and working conditions. In manufacturing, these effects can be direct. For example, in electronics manufacturing, conventional soldering requires thermal pre-heating cycles that exposes workers to high ambient heat as well as safety risks. Replacing this with induction heating enables localised heating of the material, reducing energy demand by around 70% while eliminating heat stress and safety hazards…

Saving Energy
Today's energy shortages and high prices makes it more important than ever to use energy wisely With today’s global energy crisis resulting in high prices and shortages that are hurting consumers, businesses and entire economies, it has never been more important to use energy more wisely. We can do this through simple changes in behaviour and habits to consume less energy in our daily activities. We can also save energy by investing in more energy efficient products that reduce both our energy bills and our environmental footprint. Energy saving tips 7 ways to save energy 1. Heating: turn…

Energy Innovation
CERT co-ordinates and promotes the development, demonstration and deployment of clean energy technologies. The CERT has established five working parties: the Working Party on Fossil Energy; the Working Party on Renewable Energy Technologies; the Working Party on Energy End-Use Technologies; the Fusion Power Co-ordinating Committee and the Working Party of Industrial Decarbonisation. The CERT has also established an Experts' Group on R&D Priority-Setting and Evaluation (EGRD) to advise on R&D priority-setting, linkages to governmental policy objectives and methods in the evaluation of R&D activities, and an understanding of emerging R&D topics. Energy…

…ahead, ensuring reliable supplies of critical minerals will be key to the security of energy systems. However, there are risks. Our analysis indicates that today’s well-supplied market may not be a good guide for the future as demand rises. Additionally, the over-concentration in critical minerals markets today is unprecedented compared with any other major commodity we rely on in the modern world. To support countries as they look to develop sufficient and resilient critical mineral supply chains – a top priority for governments, companies and investors globally – the IEA has been growing its work in this field, expanding…
