Renewables 2021 Biofuels
…the remaining expansion, but other factors such as overall transport fuel demand, costs and specific policy design influence where growth occurs and which fuels grow quickest. The combination of these influences pushes Asian biofuel production past that of Europe during the forecast period. Policies in the United States and Europe help demand for renewable diesel (also known as hydrogenated vegetable oil [HVO] in Europe) to nearly triple. The factors influencing biofuel demand are all subject to uncertainty. For example, some governments have responded to the current high price of feedstock by relaxing or delaying biofuel blending mandates, with the effect…

Sheltering From Oil Shocks Summary
…of global oil consumption. These flows have slowed to a trickle. The loss of supply is having significant impacts in global markets, pushing up prices for crude oil above $100/barrel, and leading to much higher prices for some refined products – notably diesel, jet fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Concerns are growing about the impacts of higher prices on households, businesses and the broader economy. The resumption of transit through the Strait of Hormuz is the single most important action to return to stable oil and gas flows and reduce the strains on markets and prices. In the interim…

Sheltering From Oil Shocks Targeted consumer support to enhance energy affordability
…Covid-19 pandemic and the 2022 energy crisis, demonstrated that impacts often fall disproportionately on the poorer segments of the population. On top of this general effect, consumers and small businesses in remote and Island territories are often very exposed to increases in oil prices. Even in normal times, electricity generation on islands can cost 10 times more than on mainland territories where they are often dependent on diesel generators. As a response to this issue, Barbados, for example, has locked in the price of heavy fuel oil which powers electricity generation, at USD 92 per barrel for the three…

Diesel and Alternative Fuels Grant Scheme
The Diesel and Alternative Fuels Grants Scheme (DAFGS) was intended to provide assistance to regional areas to reduce the cost of diesel and certain other fuels used in transporting goods and passengers, and to extend the Diesel Fuel Rebate Scheme (DFRS) to additional activities and other specified fuels. In addition, it sought to allow the full rebate to activities receiving only a part rebate. Fuel grants for eligble users were indexed on 1 February 2001 and were: - compressed natural gas (CNG) 12.617 cents per cubic metre - liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) 11.925 cents per litre - ethanol 20.809 cents…

…pre-conflict levels in late April. Prices pulled back in late May and early June as strategic stock releases and demand weakness eased market tightness, and after the United States and Iran announced an interim agreement to end hostilities. Physical crude markets continue to reflect acute supply tightness as refiners scramble to replace lost Middle Eastern cargoes with alternative supplies. Prices for certain oil products – notably diesel, jet fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which have been particularly exposed to the disruption – remain elevated.Shipments of oil through the Strait increased sharply in early June, supported by ship-to-ship…

Kenya 2024 Executive summary
…2023. The country is one of the lowest-cost geothermal power developers in the world and is home to the Lake Turkana Wind Project, the largest wind farm in Africa. The power sector has around 3.3 GW of installed generation capacity, of which 950 MW is from geothermal, over 800 MW from hydropower and almost 800 MW from wind and solar combined. The remaining capacity comes from oil, mostly in the form of diesel generators (nearly 700 MW) and bioenergy. The recent addition of geothermal (around 750 MW geothermal capacity additions in the last decade) and variable renewable capacity has supplemented existing large-scale h...
