Castor initiative to research the use of amonia as a marine fuel

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has joined the Ammonia-fueled tanker Joint Development Project (JDP), an industry-led project, to research the use of ammonia as a marine fuel to reduce carbon emissions.

Members of the coalition, named the Castor Initiative, include Lloyd’s Register, Samsung Heavy Industries, MAN Energy Solutions and Norwegian chemical company Yara International ASA.

The consortium will be able to make use of the MPA’s experience as a bunkering hub to gather insights on safety issues and ammonia bunkering procedures, and gain access to research capabilities in Singapore.

                National Methane Action Plan

Sweden's National Methane Action Plan, submitted to the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in 2022, maps current and projected methane emissions and reviews the national strategies, policies and measures targeting mitigation. The agricultural sector is responsible for the majority of emissions, followed by waste, land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) and the energy sector. Economy-wide emissions have decreased by roughly 42% from 1990 levels to reach a total of 4.6 Mt CO2-eq in 2020. Emissions are projected to decrease by 53% compared to 1990 levels by 2030 under current policies. The Swedish government…

The Petroleum Licensing (Applications) Regulations 2015

The 1998 Petroleum Act empowers the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) to grant licenses for the exploration and development of England’s oil and gas resources. In the case of coalmining, a Methane Drainage License from the OGA is required if the operator or owner of a coalmine must capture natural gas to make the mine safe.  This regulation outlines procedures for the application for: (a) landward petroleum exploration licences;(b) seaward petroleum exploration licences;(c) methane drainage licences;(d) petroleum exploration and development licences;(e) and seaward area production licences. Thus, it states the information required, applicable timelines and…
