Japan was the fourth-largest crude oil importer, the largest importer of liquefied natural gas and the third-largest importer of coal in the world in 2019. In 2019, fossil fuels accounted for 88% of Japan’s total primary energy supply, the sixth-highest share among IEA countries. Among the IEA member countries with the highest share of oil and gas, Japan’s import savings from energy efficiency are the largest. Strategic Minerals List
On 18 June 2020, the Nigerian Minister of Mines and Steel Development announced the designation of seven strategic minerals for the country in a forum organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group. The seven strategic minerals are coal, iron ore, bitumen, gold, limestone, lead-zinc and barite. Alongside the seven named minerals, the ministry also indicated interest in other critical minerals for the future, including "titanium, tungsten, lithium and cobalt, which have various applications in futuristic industries such as aerospace, telecoms and electric vehicle manufacturing." In order to promote the development of Western China, new guidelines have been set to develop the region’s energy structure, through: - The development of coal bed methane, and a new coal reserve base; - New oil and gas production and pipelines; - The promotion of “clean energy bases” and the construction of new west-to-east power transmission lines. Social Contract for the Mining Industry
