Ramping up Heat Pumps in Moldova: A Roadmap
Buildings account for more than half of Moldova’s final energy consumption, with three-quarters of that used for space and water heating. At the same time, Moldova lacks domestic hydrocarbon resources and imports more than 80% of its primary energy. Heat pump technology offers Moldova an effective means of accelerating the transition in building heating. The recent expansion of Moldova’s solar and wind capacity also means that heat pumps can now play a greater role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and lowering local air pollution. Finally, Moldovan’s 2024 referendum, endorsing the goal of European Union membership, underscores…

Sustainable Transport for Georgia: A Roadmap
…While transport covers many fuels and technologies, this roadmap focuses primarily on reducing emissions and energy use in road transport while improving accessibility, performance and safety. It also provides guidance for non-governmental organisations (NGOs), development financiers and the private sector. This roadmap begins with an outline of Georgia’s institutional and policy framework, followed by the broader context, highlighting transport’s role in the economy and its environmental impacts. It reviews transport’s effects on people’s lives, including both benefits (access to goods and services) and drawbacks (congestion, air and climate pollution, and road injuries and deaths).Since…

Financing the Modernisation of Power Systems Beyond Coal
…emissions from operating plants, and considers the investment and power system planning challenges of replacing coal generation while maintaining essential system services. It also reviews project‑based and emerging jurisdictional approaches to transition credits, focusing on methodologies for the early retirement of grid‑connected coal plants and their replacement with clean energy.By examining these issues from a power system, investment and carbon markets perspective, the report aims to provide a clearer understanding of coal transition strategies and outlines recommendations for countries that may choose to explore transition credits as an option to reduce the role of coal in their electricity mix.

Integrating Solar and Wind in Southeast Asia
…exposes countries to volatile fuel prices, potential supply disruptions and rising emissions. At the same time, the region possesses vast and diverse renewable resource potential. Variable renewable energy (VRE) - solar and wind - are now among the most cost-competitive generation options and are playing an increasingly important role in the region’s power sector. VRE presents an opportunity for the region to meet rising demand, support energy security, affordability and climate goals. However, integrating higher shares of VRE can present technical and regulatory challenges that require changes to system operation and planning. This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the…
