Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy
…The additional coverage includes:- Non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion: estimates for CH4 and N2O have been added, following a methodology similar to that for the estimates of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion, and considering the type and level of disaggregation of activity data available at country level.- Fugitive emissions of CO2 and CH4 from the coal, oil and gas energy sectors are now included for 93 countries and 18 regions. This includes category 1B of the 2006 IPCC guidelines for GHG inventories- Aggregated figures for total energy-related greenhouse gas emissions are now included for 93 countries…

CCUS Projects Database
Covers all large-scale CO2 capture, transport, storage, and utilisation projects commissioned or in planning worldwide. The IEA established this dataset as part of its efforts to track advances in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS). It covers all CO2 capture, transport, storage, and utilisation projects worldwide that have been commissioned since the 1970s, and have an announced capacity of more than 100 000 t per year (or 1 000 t per year for direct air capture facilities). It includes projects with a clear emissions reduction scope, and excludes CO2 capture for utilisation pathways which bring low climate benefits (e.g. food…

Fossil Fuel Subsidies Database
Fossil fuel consumption subsidies for selected countries, 2010-2022 The IEA estimates subsidies to fossil fuels that are consumed directly by end-users or consumed as inputs to electricity generation (see explanation of the price-gap methodology).

Solid biofuels consumption estimation model
The African continent accounts for about 50% of the solid biofuels consumed worldwide, with 82% of its inhabitants – or around 900 million people -- relying on it for heating and cooking. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, roughly 95% of the population depends on biomass in the form of fuelwood, charcoal and residues. Accurate data to measure solid biofuel’s share of the energy mix is key to developing policies and assessing sustainability goals. However, the continent suffers from systematic lack of data, with the reported figures often not harmonised across countries and collected from outdated surveys. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has…

Global Energy Review: CO2 Emissions in 2021
Global emissions rebound sharply to highest ever level The global CO2 emissions and energy demand numbers are based on the IEA’s detailed region-by-region and fuel-by-fuel analysis, drawing on the latest official national data and publicly available energy, economic and weather data. Combined with the methane emissions estimates published by the IEA and estimates of nitrous oxide and flaring related CO2 emissions, this new analysis shows that overall greenhouse gas emissions from energy rose to their highest ever level in 2021.

The Role of Critical Minerals in Clean Energy Transitions
Minerals are essential components in many of today’s rapidly growing clean energy technologies – from wind turbines and electricity networks to electric vehicles. Demand for these minerals will grow quickly as clean energy transitions gather pace. The World Energy Outlook Special Report The Role of Critical Minerals in Clean Energy Transitions provides the most comprehensive analysis to date of the complex links between these minerals and the prospects for a secure, rapid transformation of the energy sector. Alongside a wealth of detail on mineral demand prospects under different technology and policy assumptions, it examines whether today’s mineral investments can…
