Superior Energy Performance (SEP)

Last updated: 5 November 2017
Superior Energy Performance ® (SEPâ €ž ¢) certifies industrial facilities that implement an energy management system that meets the ISO 50001 global energy management system standard and achieve improved energy performance. An independent third party audits each facility to verify achievements and qualify it for recognition at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum level, based on performance. The programme is a collaboration between DOE's Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) and the U.S. Council for Energy-Efficient Manufacturing that focuses on developing and implementing system assessment standards, as well as developing a transparent system to validate energy intensity improvements and management practices and creating a verified recorded of energy savings and carbon reductions. The programme also conducts energy management demonstration projects. This voluntary, industry-designed certification programme gives companies a framework to focus on managing and improving energy performance. It makes energy management an essential part of a company's standard operating procedure by offering a method to measure and validate plant energy efficiency improvements.
