Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 6 November 2019

Enacted on 27 November 2008, the Planning and Energy Act enables local planning authorities in England and Wales to set requirements for energy use and energy efficiency in local plans.  It allows local authorities to establish their own requirements for a proportion of energy used in development plans to come from renewable sources, to be low carbon, or to comply with energy efficiency standards that exceed the requirements of existing building regulations.
