Colombia's Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy

Last updated: 15 February 2022

Colombia's Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy is part of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition's (CCAC) “Support for National Action Planning” initiative.

This strategy identifies actions towards addressing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) and that should be addressed through the planning and implementation of domestic policies. As part of the actions to the mitigation of SLCP, the oil and gas and mining sector are included.

Concrete actions are:

1.       To recover, use and oxidize methane from coal mines

2.       To recover and use the gas and fugitive emissions during the production of oil and gas

3.       To reduce the leaks on transmission and distribution systems of oil and gas

This instrument also sets the goal to reduce methane emissions by 2030 by 170,000 tonnes of CH4 (in the context of the NDC).
