Ramping up Heat Pumps in Moldova: A Roadmap Financing the transition
…Another way to offset high upfront costs is to reduce the running costs, thereby shortening the payback time. This will also be explored as part of the total cost of ownership analysis. Policy options to finance heat pumps Governments can reduce the initial cost burden of heat pumps by providing subsidies, sometimes also referred to as “grants.” Upfront subsidies can take different forms: a flat-rate subsidy disperses a pre-defined lump sum, while a percentage-based subsidy reimburses a defined share of the total cost of the heat pump and its installation. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme in the United…

China’s Official Energy Finance in Emerging and Developing Economies Case 2. Southern power grid’s acquisition of Enel Peru distribution assets
Project overview and impact Latin America’s power systems face a growing need to modernise their electricity networks as clean energy deployment accelerates. While the region has seen a 25% increase in clean energy investment since 2015, grid spending has not kept pace, with less than USD 0.5 invested in networks and storage for every dollar spent on new generation. Strengthening distribution systems, especially in rapidly expanding urban areas, is essential to integrate more renewables. Peru is no exception. Although its electricity demand has grown steadily, network modernisation has lagged behind regional leaders, and the expansion of renewable capacity…

Global Methane Tracker 2026 Regional insights
…on Climate Change (IPCC). Meanwhile, work integrating satellite observations with Colombia’s national methane inventory has identified underreporting in the energy sector and offers a model for improving national inventories. The United Nations Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is currently conducting a study on the sources of methane emissions in Colombia and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is supporting efforts to strengthen monitoring, reporting and verification in that country’s mining sector. All of the region’s major energy producers have signed the Global Methane Pledge, except for Venezuela. Colombia is the only country with…

Energy End-uses and Efficiency Indicators
…The Energy End-uses and Efficiency Indicators database contains annual data from 2000 covering end use energy consumption by energy product, end use carbon emissions, associated indicators across four sectors of final consumption (industry, services, residential and transport) and energy decomposition analysis, to show the impact of different drivers (e.g. activity, structure and efficiency) on consumption trends, for the IEA member countries and beyond. The database includes the full disaggregation available of for all the years between 2000 and 2024. The indicators are computed by using key sectorial activity data, for example, passenger-kilometre energy intensity by mode/vehicle…
