Global Energy Review 2026 Technology: Solar PV and wind
…share was made up by hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal, concentrating solar power and marine energy. Solar PV capacity additions in 2025 rose by around 12%, surpassing 600 GW for the first time. This expansion brought cumulative solar PV capacity to around 2 800 GW, becoming the technology with the largest installed capacity globally. Thirty countries installed over 1 GW of solar PV in a single year, almost twice as many as in 2020. Meanwhile, following stable growth in 2024, annual wind capacity additions increased by nearly 40% globally, setting a new record at around 160 GW, despite ongoing supply chain challenges…

Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2026 Southeast Asia’s energy challenges and emerging opportunities
…fossil fuel imports and complementing renewables. However, projects require strong regulatory institutions, skilled workforces, public trust, clear financing models and careful partner choices, since reactor technology, fuel supply and financing arrangements can create decades-long dependencies. Competitiveness depends heavily on construction costs and financing conditions: nuclear supports affordability only if projects are delivered on time and on budget, with policy frameworks that reduce investment risk. The ASEAN Power Grid is central to a more connected, secure and flexible regional power system. Interconnectors can move low-cost renewable electricity from resource-rich areas to demand centres, smooth variable renewable output and…

Stronger efficiency is the first and best policy to bring down energy bills
Variations in energy efficiency exist both within and among countries. For example, in some European countries with similar climates it can take twice as much energy to heat the same floor area or within one country the energy consumed between the most efficient and least efficient homes for a given size can vary by a factor of up to three.

Gas 2025 Executive summary
…subdued in Asia and declined in Eurasia.Tighter market fundamentals have contributed to higher gas prices in key import markets, weighing on natural gas consumption, especially in price-sensitive Asian markets. While global LNG supply increased by more than 5% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2025, this growth was partially offset by lower piped gas supplies to Europe from Russia and Norway. Stronger storage injection needs in Europe further tightened markets. For the full year of 2025, global gas demand growth is forecast to slow from 2.8% in 2024 to below 1% in 2025. Demand...
