Powering Ireland’s Energy Future Executive summary
Ireland faces strategic choices to align its energy, climate and socio-economic goals through 2035 Over the next decade, decision makers in Ireland will need to balance a range of trends and policy ambitions that have strong implications for the power sector. Ireland has set a range of policy goals spanning the next decade, from improving energy security by reducing its reliance on imported fossil fuels, to meeting its climate targets, expanding its housing stock, and supporting the growth of digital infrastructure such as data centres. These ambitions all have strong links to the country's power sector, with implications…

World Energy Outlook 2025 Regional insights
Diverse priorities, diverse pathways This chapter explores energy sector trends and priorities in countries and regions that cumulatively account for around 90% of the world’s population, GDP and energy demand. Priorities, objectives and national circumstances vary widely between and within regions, but two trends that are visible in most parts of the world are a rise in the electrification of end-uses, and a rise in the share of renewables in electricity generation. Energy trends in advanced economies are shaped by the structure of their economies, and by high average incomes and rates of vehicle and appliance ownership. Overall…

Energy and Gender
It comprises a number of senior officials from IEA Member countries, facilitating the exchange of best practices on gender equality and inclusion and gender mainstreaming across the energy sector. Women are vital energy consumers, producers and decision-makers who make a crucial contribution to global energy security and energy transitions. Building a more secure, fair and equitable energy future hinges on their active participation.Recognising this, the IEA’s Member countries have asked the Agency to focus on key issues at the nexus of energy and gender, from improving gender data collection to expanding analysis of the gender dimensions of…

"Critical metals" call for projects
The "Critical Metals" call for projects, organised by the French Public Investment Bank (BPI France) is a government aid system that is part of the France 2030 Investment Plan. The call’s objective is to reduce industry's dependence on critical metals in line with the priority policies of France in the fields of industry, the environment and climate. Projects are expected to be ambitious initiatives that can be rapidly industrialised in France, either by emerging players with the potential to become world-class competitors, or by existing players with an excellent track record. Projects should focus on the production…

Energy Saving Awareness Campaign
Backed and supported since 2001 by ADEME the Espaces Info Energie (EIE) network has now 200 offices throughout France run by 350 advisors. The EIE has two primary activities: 1. Free advice in response to specific public enquiries2. Presenting individual events By carrying out evaluations of simplified energy consumption in homes, according to various criteria, advisors help reduce household energy waste.EIE are mainly backed by ADEME (8 million Euros in 2007) and regional authorities but other communities can also contribute financially. The structures which support INFO ENERGIE activity are varied: they range from energy / environmental sector associations to territorial…

Biogas Agreement
A waste management company and the state-owned utility, Electricité de France (EdF), signed an agreement to develop renewable energy from landfill methane. The "biogas project" operating during 1999 was centred near the town of Plessis Gassot, home to Frances largest municipal waste landfill. The waste management company, which operates the landfill, invested FRF 200 million in the infrastructure to capture the methane gas and burn it to produce 10 MW of electricity. EdF agreed to buy all the electricity production for a term of 12 years at a guaranteed price. A second facility at the same site is expected…

Emission reductions
Multiple benefits of Energy Efficiency 2025 Energy efficiency provides multiple benefits. This page explores emission reductions. Why is energy efficiency important for emission reductions? Energy efficiency can reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants and make the energy system more sustainable. Key facts Since 2010, efficiency measures avoided energy-related carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions equivalent to nearly 20% of the global total in 2023. This is more than the entire energy-related emissions of India and the European Union combined. Accelerating efficiency improvements could deliver a third of all energy-related CO₂ emission reductions between now and 2030 in…

Global EV Outlook 2025 Trends in the electric car industry
Manufacturing and trade Steady growth in global electric car production masks differences at the regional level A total 17.3 million electric cars were produced worldwide in 2024, about one-quarter more than in 2023, largely as a result of increased production in China, which reached 12.4 million electric cars. China remains the world’s electric car manufacturing hub, accounting for more than 70% of global production in 2024. Production in China has been increasingly shaped by the expansion of domestic manufacturers. In 2024, Chinese OEMs accounted for more than 80% of domestic production, up from roughly two-thirds in 2021…
