Chile 2050 Energy Transition Roadmap Executive summary
…the backbone of the economy, with copper and related industries accounting for around 50% of export earnings and 12% of GDP. Diversification efforts have increased exports of agricultural products, wine, forestry goods and seafood, but mining continues to dominate Chile’s economic landscape. While this dependence exposes Chile to global commodity cycles, it also positions the country to benefit from rising demand for critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies.Chile has remarkable renewable and critical mineral resources; how they are used will shape the country’s future. Chile’s unique geography – stretching over 4 300 km from north to south – gives…

Sustainable Transport Policy for Armenia: A Roadmap Sustainable transport in Armenia
…13%). Natural gas is the dominant fuel in Armenia’s road transport sector, powering more than 70% of vehicles nationwide – and an even greater share in Yerevan. Most run on compressed natural gas (CNG), though some are designed to run on liquified natural gas (LNG). There are about 380 CNG filling stations across Armenia, all of which are privately owned. Since 2015, there has been a significant increase in the use of liquid petroleum gas (LPG), which is more affordable than petrol. Armenia has made substantial progress in transport electrification. Its 782-km railway network (operated by South Caucasus Railway…

Universal Access to Clean Cooking in Africa Clean cooking infrastructure
…segment where local players could have a competitive edge – provided quality meets international standards.Consumer uptake of electric cooking is on the rise globally, and in some countries, it has been a strategy to reduce fuel imports and better utilise electricity infrastructure. In South Africa, for example, over 80% of the population cooks with electricity. Successful rollout depends on increased reliability. Even for the 51% of Africans with electricity today, many do not have sufficiently reliable electricity.Across sub-Saharan Africa, at least 15 major cookstove production facilities are currently operating. While these facilities produce a range of stove types…

…achieve this goal.Regulations such as fuel economy standards and heavy-duty vehicle standards encourage manufacturers to introduce more efficient vehicles, thereby significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Countries with regulations and/or efficiency-based purchase incentives in place improve efficiency on average 60% faster than countries without such policies. Information tools such as vehicle labels help inform consumers of a vehicle’s fuel economy and running cost savings. Labels can illustrate the benefits of choosing more efficient vehicles, while also increasing transparency about real-world fuel use. Another information tool is to promote fuel-efficient driving through training programmes.Incentives…

Global Hydrogen Review 2026 Africa
Hydrogen use in Africa reached 3.1 Mt in 2024, about 3% of the global total. Hydrogen production accounted for about 6% of the region’s gas demand and 2% of regional CO2 emissions. Hydrogen use is concentrated in 6 countries (out of 54), with Egypt representing nearly half, followed by Algeria (20%), Nigeria (17%), South Africa (5%), Libya (5%) and Equatorial Guinea (3%). Ammonia production accounted for nearly three-quarters of hydrogen demand.Today, only 6 kt of low-emissions hydrogen are produced in Africa, exclusively from renewables. The hydrogen project pipeline to 2030 has 31 projects, which could allow increasing…

…28%, over 2021-2026 in the main case. The recovery to pre-Covid-19 demand levels accounts for one-fifth of this demand growth. Government policies are the principal driver of the remaining expansion, but other factors such as overall transport fuel demand, costs and specific policy design influence where growth occurs and which fuels grow quickest. The combination of these influences pushes Asian biofuel production past that of Europe during the forecast period. Policies in the United States and Europe help demand for renewable diesel (also known as hydrogenated vegetable oil [HVO] in Europe) to nearly triple. The factors…

Universal Access to Clean Cooking in Africa Outlook for clean cooking in Africa
Off the back burner? Based on today’s policies, investment and market trends, only three African countries are set to reach universal clean cooking access by mid-century. Sub-Saharan Africa could achieve universal coverage by 2040, if countries were to replicate the best historical rates of progress seen in similar countries around the world – a pathway explored in the new Accelerating Clean Cooking and Electricity Services Scenario (ACCESS). It will require 80 million people to gain access annually, or a 4.7 percentage point improvement in access rates each year, comparable to rates of progress seen in Indonesia, Cambodia…
