Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2026 Energy outlook to 2050 based on targets and pledges
Achieving Southeast Asia’s announced energy and climate pledges would bring forward a structural shift in the region’s energy system. In the Announced Pledges Scenario, total energy demand grows by around 2% per year to 2035, as stronger efficiency gains and electrification weaken the link between economic growth and energy consumption. Clean energy meets most incremental demand growth, raising its share in the energy mix to around 30% by 2035.Fossil fuel demand peaks before 2035 across all major fuels in the APS, in contrast to continued growth under today’s policy settings. Coal demand peaks around 390 Mtce…

Energy Efficiency
…Fatih Birol and Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson on 29 and 30 June 2026. Hydro-Québec, a recognised leader in energy efficiency, will also help drive industry engagement at the event.
The 11th edition of the IEA’s landmark event comes at a pivotal moment. Many governments around the world are focused on stronger action on energy efficiency as a key policy priority in order to ensure energy security and affordability while reducing emissions. However, IEA analysis has shown that despite this increased ambition, global progress on energy efficiency is slower than in the last…

Wind
…Although wind power continues to face supply chain issues, rising costs and permitting delays today, global capacity is still expected to nearly double to over 2 000 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 as both advanced and developing economies tackle these barriers.
Around 85% of capacity additions for wind are set to be onshore, with capacity expected to rise by more than 730 GW (or 45%) through 2030. Offshore wind additions of 140 GW are expected over the same period. Further boosting offshore capacity, which is particularly sensitive to macroeconomic and supply chain pressures, would require effective auction design and supportive policy.

IEA Ministerial hosts high-level dialogue to accelerate clean cooking and energy access
…on priority actions to accelerate deployment and mobilise additional capital.IEA analysis presented during the session shows that Africa could achieve universal access to clean cooking by 2040 by replicating policies that have delivered the fastest rates of progress globally. The World Energy Outlook 2025 introduced an Accelerating Clean Cooking and Electricity Scenario (ACCESS). In that scenario, LPG provides clean cooking access to over 60% of those currently lacking it, with electricity providing access to a further 17%, bioethanol and biogas to 11%, and advanced biomass cookstoves to the remainder. Achieving this pathway would require investment of around $2 bil...
