Financing Electricity Access in Africa
Access to electricity is a cornerstone for economic development, poverty reduction and social equity. However, almost 600 million people in Africa lack access to electricity today, with progress falling far behind targets set by both African governments and the international community. Reaching universal electricity access will require a rapid scale-up of investment and financing to USD 15 billion per year, enabling the expansion of generation capacity, grid networks and decentralised solutions while ensuring that progress remains inclusive and sustainable. In a new flagship report, Financing Electricity Access in Africa, the International Energy Agency (IEA) undertakes its authoritative energy analysis…

National Electricity General Plan
The plan is a policy framework and roadmap for the development of Indonesia's electricity sector, with a primary focus on achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 or sooner. By 2060, the target is for new and renewable energy to account for approximately 73.6% of the energy mix, while fossil fuels combined with Carbon Capture and Storage will make up the remaining 26.4%. It also aims to develop infrastructure by interconnecting various islands and implementing smart grid technologies and achieve 100% electrification ratio by 2029.

…generation sector, specifically coal-fired power plants with a capacity of 25 MW or more (under Ministerial Regulation No. 16 of 2022 on Guidelines for Carbon Economic Value Implementation for the Power Generation Sub-Sector, which expressly covers methane emissions). The Indonesian Government plans to expand this emissions trading scheme to cover oil- and gas-fired power plants starting in 2027. As of 2025, the MEMR has not adopted any regulation for the purpose of establishing mandatory carbon pricing for the production, processing and transportation of fossil fuels. It establishes a measurement and reporting system for GHG emissions. Business actors…
