                Connecticut Energy Efficiency Obligation

…should be equivalent to yearly incremental electricity savings targets of ~1.51% and natural gas savings of 0.61% through 2018. Obligated parties include electric distribution utilities, natural gas companies, and municipal electric utilities. Eligible energy efficiency measures include demand-side measures, including, but not limited to, energy efficiency, load management, demand response, combined heat and power facilities, distributed generation and other emerging energy technologies. Savings are calculated on the basis of deemed savings. Connecticut has established formal rules and procedures for evaluation, which are stated in Public Act 11-80 and Evaluation Rules and Roadmap. Statewide evaluations are conducted.

Clean Energy Technology Supply Chain Data Executive summaryExecutive summary

Energy security in the Age of Electricity is inextricably linked to securing the supply chains for clean energy technologies and the equipment and materials used to manufacture them. As countries continue to pursue energy transitions and make investments in the deployment and manufacturing of these technologies – guided by industrial strategies – a detailed understanding of their supply chains has an essential role to play. The availability of good-quality, timely data is crucial to understanding clean energy technology supply chains and addressing vulnerabilities. Risks to supply chains can arise from interdependencies across technologies and between geographies, among other factors. Today, the…

                Russia's War on Ukraine

The new energy world The global energy landscape has changed dramatically The energy sector continues to feel the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which in February 2022 sparked the first truly global energy crisis. Two years on, energy prices have pulled back from record highs, but trends vary widely among regions. In many parts of the world, prices are still elevated  – holding back economic growth, straining the finances of households and businesses, and complicating efforts to improve access to electricity. Energy markets, faced with an unusually high degree of geopolitical uncertainty, remain on edge.In Ukraine, the energy sector…

Global energy demand growth was met by diverse range of sources in 2025, led by solar and then gas

…60% of all growth in energy demand – and power generation from these sources exceeded total growth in electricity demand.Global oil demand rose by 0.7%, in line with IEA projections. This reflected continued growth of electric vehicles, which constrained demand for road fuels. Electric car sales in 2025 increased by over 20% to more than 20 million units – making up around one in four new car sales worldwide. Strong renewables growth reduced coal use in power generation in China, while coal demand increased in the United States as high natural gas prices drove gas-to-coal switching in electricity generation…

Close to 30% of cars sold this year are set to be electric as countries and consumers respond to energy crisis

…is providing some relief now amid the largest oil supply shock in history,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. “Looking ahead, the falls we have seen in battery prices and the potential policy responses to the current global energy crisis are set to provide further momentum in EV markets.”The report finds that sales of electric trucks are also growing significantly, with the vast majority in China. Global sales more than doubled in 2025 from the previous year. Electric models accounted for nearly one in ten trucks sold worldwide last year. And the most electrified road transport segment, two- a...

Sheltering From Oil Shocks Targeted consumer support to enhance energy affordabilityTargeted consumer support to enhance energy affordability

Many governments around the world are reacting quickly to protect consumers from increasing fuel prices. In the days following the conflict in the Middle East, the IEA has tracked announcements from around 40 countries that are deploying or considering deploying emergency measures to shelter consumers from price increases. Immediate government responses have been to implement price caps, fuel subsidies and shifts in taxation, along with price stabilisation mechanisms that can quickly set limits on consumer price increases.  Previous crises, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2022 energy crisis, demonstrated that impacts often fall disproportionately on the poorer segments of…

Gas Market Report, Q2-2025 Executive summaryExecutive summary

Global gas demand growth is expected to slow in 2025 amid macroeconomic uncertainties Following the gas supply shock of 2022/23, natural gas demand returned to structural growth in 2024 and continued to expand through the 2024/25 heating season. Growth was primarily concentrated in Europe and North America, with weather conditions, including lower temperatures, leading to stronger gas use in buildings and the power sector. In contrast, gas demand growth slowed in Asia amid higher spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices and a milder winter in the People’s Republic of China (hereafter “China”). Tighter market fundamentals put upward…

                Austria 2026 Executive summaryExecutive summary

Austria has one of the most ambitious climate and energy targets in the world; achieving them requires actionable delivery strategies and adequate funding. The country’s commitments to climate neutrality by 2040 – a full decade ahead of the European Union (EU) – and a 100% renewable share in the national annual electricity balance by 2030 are bold. These goals are underpinned by a large hydropower fleet (accounting for around 60% of electricity generation), including 5.6 gigawatts (GW) of pumped hydro storage and a nationwide smart meter roll-out. Austria has the highest share of renewable energy in electricity consumption in the…
