                2050 Carbon neutrality scenarios (final)

…the committee came up with upgraded two scenarios which both call for the coal phase-out suggesting different proposals in sectors such as power supply, transportation, hydrogen, and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).  The specific scenarios are as follows: • 1st Scenario: aiming to eliminate all thermal power generation using fossil fuel and LNG to achieve zero emissions in the power supply sector • 2nd Scenario: aiming to abolish coal-fired power generation but will keep LNG as a flexible power source with some levels of emissions including plans to boost CCUS and direct air capture (DAC) capabilities to achieve net…

Guidelines for industrial and operational security, and environmental protection in activities of exploration and extraction of unconventional hydrocarbons

Governs the exploration and production of unconventional resources, including shale gas, tight oil, heavy and extra heavy oil and bitumen, methane hydrates, and coal seam gas. Regulated parties must evaluate the environmental impact and perform a risk analysis of their operations and processes, explicitly including their methane emissions (Art 10-13). Well drilling and completion specifications require monitoring, recording and control of methane emissions (Art 20, 41). During unloading and gathering stages, regulated entities must rely on methods and equipment for detection of fugitive leaks. The recommended but not limiting set of methods includes laser, acoustic, or infrared detection (Art…

Prime Minister Decree No. 964 of 2015 - Amendment of Executive Regulation of Law 4/1994

The amendment updates the excutive regulations of the Law 4/1994, governing environmental issues in Egypt, as previously amended in 2011. It includes several updates related to the environmental protection fund and coal handling regulations, including methane emissions. This amendment identifies the different resources that contribute to the environmental protection fund, and the disbursement terms of such funding. The budget is allocated to finance different categories of environmental activities in Egypt. One category supports pilot projects in environmental protection, pollution reduction, and sustainable development. Another facilitates technology transfer to address environmental issues. The fund also finances required studies and analysis…

Guiding Opinions on Energy-related Work in 2017

                …energy sector of 2017.
The main targets are as follow:

                1. Energy consumption: The total energy consumption national wide should reach to 4.4 billion tons of standard coal; the share of non-fossil energy should rise to 14.3%; natural gas consumption should increase to 6.8%, and the coal consumption should decrease to 60%.
                2. Energy supply: The total national energy production target is about 3.67 billion tons of standard coal, including around 3.65 billion tons of coal production, about 200 million tons of crude oil production and 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas production…

The Australian Government's AUD 5.1 billion Clean Energy Initiative (CEI) is designed to support clean energy generation and new technologies to reduce carbon emissions and stimulate the clean energy sector. The initiative includes four components: - Support for low emissions coal technologies including the Carbon Capture and Storage Flagships Program and the National Low Emissions Coal Initiative; - Support for solar technologies including the Solar Flagships Program and the Australian Solar Institute; - The Australian Centre for Renewable Energy, which supports technology development and commercialisation; and - Further support for renewable energy and energy efficiency through the Renewable Energy Future Fund. Energy Strategy 2050

The main goal of the Danish 2050 Energy Strategy is to achieve 100% independence from fossil fuel in the national energy mix by 2050.
In a first step to completely phase out fossil fuels the government targets the drop in the consumption of oil, gas and coal by 33% between 2009 and 2020.
The share of thermal production in total energy generation should also decrease from 71% to 40% over the same period.
To reach 100% of electricity from renewable, the Danish government greatly focuses on wind energy, expected to provide for 40% of total electricity needs, together with biomass…

The National 13th Five-Year Scientific and Technological Innovation Plan (Guo Fa (2016) No.43) was issued and implemented by the State Council of China in July 2016. It refers to accelerating the development of clean and efficient use of coal as well as new types of energy-saving technologies through to 2030, including an emphasis on efficient coal power generation, clean coal conversion, and CCUS in coal-fired power generation.

Notice on Matters Concerning the New Energy Feed-in Tariff Policy

On 11 June, the NDRC released a new notice guiding the price for feed in tariffs. The new regulations stipulate:

                on-grid electricity price for new projects in 2021 will be implemented according to the local coal-fired power generation benchmark price;
Newly built projects can voluntarily participate in market-oriented transactions to form feed-in tariffs to better reflect the green power value of photovoltaic power and wind power generation.

Starting from 2021, on-grid tariffs for newly approved (registered) offshore wind power projects and solar thermal power generation projects will be set by the local provincial-level pricing…

The Prime Minister announced that the UK will end direct government support for the fossil fuel energy sector overseas. It means that the UK will end export finance, aid funding and trade promotion for new crude oil, natural gas or thermal coal projects, with very limited exceptions. Following an extensive consulation process, the policy came into effect on 31 March 2021.
