Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy
…1971 (Non-OECD).Emissions from fuel combustion were calculated using IEA energy balances and the default methods and emission factors given in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for GHG inventories. The fugitive emissions data are obtained from the IEA Global Methane Tracker 2024.With the objective to increase the scope of greenhouse gas emissions estimations, the IEA has covered starting the 2021 edition the broad set of energy-related emissions, accounting for bulk of the category 1 of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for GHG inventories. The additional coverage includes:- Non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion: estimates for CH4 and…

Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Energy Highlights
…Energy (previously called CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion) contains an extensive selection of Greenhouse gas emissions data from the energy sector for over 190 countries and regions. Emissions data are based on the World Energy Balances and on the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for Greenhouse Gas Inventories. With the objective to increase the scope and time range of greenhouse gas emissions estimates, the IEA has expanded the data included in this file with the following indicators:Energy related greenhouse gas emissionsFugitive greenhouse gas emissionsExtended time series, starting in 1751 of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion.Data can also be visualized in…

Reliance on Russian Fossil Fuels in OECD and EU Countries
…from Russian imports The indicators are calculated as follows:Total relianceThis indicator is the ratio of Russian fossil fuel imports to total domestic consumption.Fuel reliance for total oil, coal, and natural gasThis indicator is the ratio of Russian imports to domestic fuel consumption. This indicator represents the importance of imports from Russia and is calculated for oil, natural gas and coal. Please note that these three indicators cannot be aggregated as they are computed on different basis (total energy supply for each fuel).Note that the annual shares shown here for oil may not correspond to the shares shown…

Energy End-uses and Efficiency Indicators
Annual data from 2000 covering end-use energy consumption, now featuring end-use carbon emissions for the IEA member countries and beyond.
The data is updated twice a year, at the end of each semesters. The Energy End-uses and Efficiency Indicators database contains annual data from 2000 covering end use energy consumption by energy product, end use carbon emissions, associated indicators across four sectors of final consumption (industry, services, residential and transport) and energy decomposition analysis, to show the impact of different drivers (e.g. activity, structure and efficiency) on consumption trends, for the IEA member countries and beyond… -

Solid biofuels consumption estimation model
The African continent accounts for about 50% of the solid biofuels consumed worldwide, with 82% of its inhabitants – or around 900 million people -- relying on it for heating and cooking. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, roughly 95% of the population depends on biomass in the form of fuelwood, charcoal and residues. Accurate data to measure solid biofuel’s share of the energy mix is key to developing policies and assessing sustainability goals. However, the continent suffers from systematic lack of data, with the reported figures often not harmonised across countries and collected from outdated surveys. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has…
