Measures to Reduce Energy Costs (2026)
In March 2026, the Irish government introduced temporary energy affordability measures in response to rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East crisis. The package includes fuel excise reductions of €0.15/litre (petrol) and €0.20/litre (diesel), a temporary reduction of the NORA levy (~€0.02/litre), and an increase in diesel rebates for transport operators (from €0.075 to €0.12/litre). It also extends the fuel allowance by 4 weeks (€38/week; €152 total) for ~470,000 households, providing targeted short-term support to households and businesses.

Decree n. 199 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources
This decree aims at translating the EU directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources to Italy's legislative framework. It notably sets a mandate to suppliers of petrol, diesel and methane to achieve a share of at least 16% of renewable sources by 2030. Starting from 2023, the share of biofuels blended with gasoline shall stand to at least 0.5%, to increase to 3% from 2025 onwards.

National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative (NPSSI)
The National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative (NPSSI) is a federal government programme launched in 2025 to deploy solar power systems in public institutions across Nigeria. The initiative has initial funding of about ₦100 billion and aims to replace diesel generators with solar mini-grids and renewable power systems in schools, hospitals, government offices and other critical facilities. The programme seeks to reduce energy costs, improve reliability of electricity supply and support Nigeria’s clean energy transition.

In an effort to shield domestic consumers from the effects of the global energy crisis, the Greek government implemented in May 2022 a subsidy scheme for transport fuel (petrol and diesel). Individuals and independent workers will benefit from it, depending on their type of vehicle and place of residence. The scheme was extended in July for 3 additional months.

Viet Nam Environment Tax Reduction on Fuel
Viet Nam government continued to implement a cut of its environment tax on fuels to curb their high prices, from January to December 2024.The tax has been reduced to VND 2,000 per litre on gasoline, VND 600 for kerosene and VND 1,000 on diesel, lubricating oil and fuel oil.

NOM-163-SEMARNAT-SCFI-2023: Light Duty Vehicles CO2 Emission Standards
The Official Mexican Standard NOM-163-SEMARNAT-SCFI-2023, published in Jan 2024 is the latest update to Mexico's standards on the carbon dioxide emissions from new motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,857 kilograms. It covers vehicles that use gasoline, diesel or alternative fuels, or if they are hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, extended range electric or fuel cell vehicles. Subsidy for clean trucks
The amount of the subsidy depends on the type of truck and the size of the company. Large companies can be reimbursed in total (subsidy and tax benefit) up to 40% of the additional costs compared to a diesel truck, while small companies (<10 employees) this raises to 60%. The subsidy scheme runs until the beginning of 2027. Currently, the pot is filled with a total of more than € 40 million, which will be available until 2024; the government is currently working on the design of the budget after 2024.

GB 19578-2014 Fuel consumption limits for passenger cars
The standard specifies fuel consumption limits for passenger cars and applies to type M1 Vehicles up to a weight of 3500kg operating on gasoline or diesel fuel. The standard excludes vehicles powered on gas- or ethanol based fuels.
