Universal Access to Clean Cooking in Africa Clean cooking infrastructure
The right ingredients Extending access depends on new infrastructure, with differing requirements across technologies and regions. This chapter maps for the first time ever Africa’s existing clean cooking infrastructure, highlighting gaps and key considerations for expansion.Widening liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution in sub-Saharan Africa requires the buildout of infrastructure. This includes additional primary storage – which is concentrated in oil producing states today – and improved port infrastructure, as 50% of LPG demand in the region is imported. On the distribution side, additional bottling facilities and specialised vehicles for safe transportation are required. With nearly 20 plants operating, cylinder manufacturing…

Global Methane Tracker 2026 Regional insights
…on Climate Change (IPCC). Meanwhile, work integrating satellite observations with Colombia’s national methane inventory has identified underreporting in the energy sector and offers a model for improving national inventories. The United Nations Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is currently conducting a study on the sources of methane emissions in Colombia and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is supporting efforts to strengthen monitoring, reporting and verification in that country’s mining sector. All of the region’s major energy producers have signed the Global Methane Pledge, except for Venezuela. Breakthrough Agenda Report 2025 Fertilisers
…GHG emissions occur during fertiliser use; the rest occur during production. In total, fertilisers emit around 1.23 Gt CO2 equivalent per year globally. The emissions intensity of ammonia has fallen by 1.1% annually over the last 10 years, driven primarily by improvements in energy efficiency. Cost Excluding policies such as CO2 pricing, ammonia production today is estimated to cost on average 30% more using carbon capture and storage (CCS) and three times more using electrolysis when compared to conventional routes. Scale and narrowing price differentials with fossil fuels can help to reduce this gap.Globally, low-emissions ammonia production projects…
