ARENA Renewable Hydrogen Deployment Funding Round

Funding to help fast track the development of renewable hydrogen in Australia by funding up to three commercial-scale hydrogen production projects. Conditional funding awarded to three projects: $42.5 million to Yuri SPV; $28.7 million to ATCO Australia; and $32.1 million to Australia Gas Networks Limited (AGIG). The Yuri SPV 'Yuri Renewable Hydrogen to Ammonia Project' reached a positive FID in September 2022 and, thus, ARENA released an increased total of $47.5 million towards the project.

Trials for Hydrogen Guarantee of Origin

After a consultation process, Australia started on 10th December a 18-months period of trials for the hydrogen Guarantee of Origin scheme. This scheme will support future trade in clean hydrogen by informing customers about the emissions associated with the hydrogen they buy; the energy source and type of technology used will also be provided. The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and the Clean Energy Regulator will lead the voluntary trials. The guarantee of origin is built on the methodologies established by the IPHE, in collaboration with the Australian Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. The 2021…

National Hydrogen Strategy - Renewable Hydrogen Deployment Funding Round

The strategy outlines an adaptive approach that equips Australia to scale up quickly as the hydrogen market grows. It includes a set of nationally coordinated actions involving governments, industry and the community will create new jobs during the pandemic.     As part of the National Hydrogen Strategy, ARENA, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency has opened up AUD 70 million funding to develop a competitive hydrogen industry in Australia. In particular, support will be geared towards developing large scale electrolysers that will source electricity from renewable energy.

                Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework

In December 2024, Australian Governments agreed the Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework. The Framework sets out a national approach to implementing disclosure schemes across Australia. Providing a home’s energy performance rating at the point of sale or lease, will help Australians be able to choose a more comfortable and energy efficient home that is cheaper to run.

                Regional Microgrids Program

…the Australian Government announced AUD 2.47 billion in funding for measures that aim to lower energy prices, reduce emissions and boost the economy.  As part of this initiative, the Program has been allocated AUD 50 million over six years (2020-21 to 2025-26) to support pilot projects for microgrids in regional Australia.  The Program aims to support microgrid projects that: - Have been found to be feasible through a feasibility study or equivalent investigation - Include the deployment of equipment and technology solutions that enable the microgrid demonstration - Demonstrate improved resilience and reliability of microgrids in regional areas - Are capable…

Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund

Through microgrids, the Australian government has continued to encourage secure, reliable, and inexpensive power for regional and distant communities. The Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund's second round will begin in 2020, with successful projects receiving up to $25 million in awards. Projects across Australia are eligible to apply, ranging from very isolated Indigenous communities in Western Australia and the Northern Territory to rural farming communities in Victoria. The program will help fund feasibility studies to see if a microgrid or upgrading off-grid technologies will better satisfy community needs. The grants varied in value from AUD 100,000…

                Home Energy Saving Scheme (HESS)

Home Energy Saving Scheme (HESS) supported low-income households across Australia experiencing difficulty meeting and paying for their energy needs. HESS provided access to energy efficiency and financial management information and education, advice, advocacy, support, referral to the No Interest Loans Scheme if appropriate and integrated service coordination around energy efficiency and financial management. The Scheme was delivered through existing not-for-profit organisations providing general financial counselling services to individuals and focused on working with households to improve their financial and energy management practices and engagement with the energy market. In this way, it sought to build on and…

                Energy Efficiency Opportunities Programme

…to undertake a rigorous energy efficiency opportunity assessment every five years and to report publicly on the outcomes of this assessment. EEO covered approximately 450 businesses across all sectors (as at 31 March 2014) that accounted for 65% of all energy end-use.

Each of these businesses uses at least as much energy as 10,000 average Australian households. EEO stimulated the business sector to take a more rigorous approach to energy use and energy efficiency by addressing the information failures and organisational barriers which work against businesses identifying and implementing cost effective improvements in energy efficiency. EEO provided advice…

This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee EN-001, Energy Auditing, to supersede, in part, AS/NZS 3598:2000, Energy audits. Energy audits are an integral part of the energy management process. They provide essential information to determine how efficiently energy is being consumed, identify energy and cost saving opportunities and highlight potential process and productivity improvements. In most cases, implementing energy audit recommendations will achieve notable cost savings. This Standard will assist organizations to decide on the appropriate type of audit for their commercial buildings provide a guide when commissioning energy audits and…
