Vietnam-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA)
On July, 2000, the Governments of Vietnam and the United States signed a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), which covers trade in goods, protection of intellectual property rights, trade in services, investment protection, business facilitation, and transparency. Vietnam Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2016-2030 with outlook until 2050 (REDS)
In November 2015 government of Vietnam adopted Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2016-2030 with outlook until 2050 (REDS) coming into force in 2016. The Strategy guides renewable energy development in the country setting clear medium and long-term goals. Special focus is set on biomass, wind and solar technologies.
According to the Strategy Vietnam will promote onshore wind power until 2030 and assess offshore wind resources potential as an electricity solution post 2030.

The Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement
On December 25, 2008, Vietnam and Japan established the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), encompassing trade in goods, services, investment, business environment enhancement, and the movement of people.Preferential tariffs are applicable to affected energy sector including ores and concentrates, such as iron, copper, nickel, cobalt, aluminium, lead, zinc, tin, chromium, and other materials related to low carbon technologies.Goods are considered originating in VJEPA if they are entirely obtained or produced in a member country or meet specific criteria, such as a minimum regional value content of 40% or a change in tariff classification.

Global electric car sales continue to break records as affordability improves

Anti-dumping Tariff Measures on Chinese and Vietnamese Seamless Copper Pipes
In March 2023, the Korean Government instituted anti-dumping tariffs on Vietnamese and Chinese seamless copper pipes imported into Korea. Decision on support mechanisms for the development of biomass power project in Vietnam (biomass feed-in tariff)
On 25th of March 2014 the government of Vietnam promulgated the Decision on support mechanisms for the development of combined heat and power (CHP) power plants using biomass. The mechanism took form of feed-in tariff and entered into force on 5th of October 2014.
The tariff level is set to VND 1,220/kWh for eligible plants for period of 20 years.
