                Colombia's Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy

Colombia's Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy is part of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition's (CCAC) “Support for National Action Planning” initiative. This strategy identifies actions towards addressing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) and that should be addressed through the planning and implementation of domestic policies. As part of the actions to the mitigation of SLCP, the oil and gas and mining sector are included. Concrete actions are: 1.       To recover, use and oxidize methane from coal mines2.       To recover and use the gas and fugitive emissions during the production of oil and gas3.       To reduce the leaks…

New projects, partnerships and policies are needed to address supply chain risks for rare earth elements

New IEA report highlights growing mismatch between accelerating use of rare earths across a wide range of technologies and slow pace of supply diversification globally Rare earth elements are moving rapidly to the forefront of global policy making for energy, transport, advanced manufacturing and digital technologies as demand continues to expand while supply chains remain highly concentrated, according to a new IEA report developed to inform G7 discussions this year. The importance of the 17 rare earth elements that underpin a wide range of technologies – from electric vehicles and AI data centres to robotics and defence systems – has grown sharply…

                Carbon Reduction Programmes

Four new carbon projects were announced in April and May 2014. The new three-year, NZD 5.35 million package was focused on enhancing business and household productivity and reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the two areas of greatest potential savings -transport and industrial heat -and used information campaigns, energy audits, training workshops and industry partnerships to deliver. The projects announced were: energy efficiency improvements in meat and dairy heat plants;a renewable energy 'hub 'for business heat in Southland;a programme to promote fuel efficient tyres; andan expanded programme for heavy vehicle fleets. 1) Energy efficiency improvements in meat…

(Alberta) Alberta Innovates’ Cleaner Hydrocarbon Production Program

…technical expertise, and applied research services to grow research and innovation across the province. Its Cleaner Hydrocarbon Production program has a subprogram on “Methane Emissions Reduction”, focused on measuring, monitoring, and mitigating methane emissions in alignment with provincial and federal targets.  The agency also runs a Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCUS) program that invests in CCUS with the aim of reducing environmental impacts, supporting Alberta’s energy transition, and creating jobs. The program’s focus on CCUS supports the decarbonisation of industries, including the minerals and metals industry. The scope covers capture, transport, storage, utilization and direct air removal technologies.

                Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy

The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy Action plan contains 82 initiatives aiming to achieve a 90% cut in emissions by 2050 in the transport sector. It focuses on adding zero-emission cars, high speed rail, automated mobility, and zero emission marine vessels by 2030. Then by 2050 nearly all cars, vans, buses as well as new heavy duty vehicles will be zero emission.

                Solar America

…With cost-sharing, the total public-private investment will total nearly USD 6.6 million. Twelve CSP projects were selected for negotiation of awards. Projects categories include: (1) thermal storage; (2) trough component manufacturing; and (3) advanced CSP systems and/or components. These projects aim to develop technology that dramatically reduces the cost of CSP power and emphasises the development of storage technologies. Specifically, CSP project goals include reducing the cost of solar power to be regularly available at less USD 10 cents/kWh by 2015. The Solar America Initiative ended in 2009 when its objectives became integrated with the…

                National Hydrogen Strategy

Draft strategy was open to public consultation from February to March 2025. The strategy showcases some scenarios for hydrogen development to 2050 with 2030 milestones. The scenarios are based on fixed technology penetrations by sector. Total investment needs are EUR 2.4 billion by 2030 and EUR 6.8 billion by 2050 for the ambitious scenario, while the conservative scenario has an investment of EUR 170 million by 2050. The 2030 plan covers 3 areas. Legislative framework; Communication and training; and Development of heavy-duty trucks and bus fleets. The strategy proposes actions for the first two areas: First, a…
