Energy Transition Law
the law provides a framework for clean energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The purposes of this Law are to regulate the sustainable use of energy, and to set out the requirements of clean energy and the reduction of pollutant emissions from the electricity industry. The LTE establishes four planning instruments: a national strategy which will set clean energy and energy efficiency goals; two special programs to implement such strategy; and a program focused on smart grids. As Article 11 stated, Energy efficiency national goals are: The energy efficiency goal will be established by the Strategy (Article 27…

Breakout session: Scaling up emerging sustainable fuel pathways
Background information Sustainable liquid fuels include advanced biofuels and synthetic hydrogen-based liquids made using a sustainable source of carbon, such as CO2 captured from the atmosphere. A diverse set of promising technologies have reached the pilot and demonstration phase, with some notable improvements on decades-old synthetic fuel processes. Some others, included lignocellulosic biofuels and alcohol-to-jet fuel are reaching the market in certain geographies. As a potential sustainable shipping fuel, ammonia and methanol are being tested at scale and order books for large engines designed for these fuels are filling up.There is significant latent demand for…

IEA Ministerial: In the Age of Electricity, energy security depends on resilience and cooperation
…of Electricity is now firmly underway. Rising power demand across sectors – driven by the electrification of transport, industry and buildings as well as growing needs from cooling, artificial intelligence and data centres – is reshaping the global energy landscape. As highlighted in the IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2025, renewables are expanding rapidly and electricity systems are playing an increasingly central role in energy security strategies. While reaffirming that the core principles of energy security – diversification, predictable policy frameworks and international cooperation – remain essential, participants also stressed that these must now extend beyond traditional fuel supply. In an era of rising…
