Integration of Renewables
Integration of Renewables This working paper gives an overview of the status and challenges of integrating an increasing share of variable renewables in the People's Republic of China, with a focus on the areas of generation, power transmission, demand-side management and policy. Some of these areas are intertwined with the nature and design of China’s electricity power market and pricing mechanism, which have an impact on the effectiveness of the country’s targets to accommodate larger shares of renewables.

System Integration of Renewables
Wind and solar PV capacity has grown very rapidly in many countries, thanks to supportive policy and dramatic falls in technology cost. By the end of 2016, these technologies – collectively referred to as variable renewable energy (VRE) – had reached double-digit shares of annual electricity generation in fifteen countries. In 2016, VRE share in electricity generation reached nearly 45% in Denmark and about 20% in Ireland and Spain.
By 2022, in large power systems like those of China, India and USA, the share of VRE is expected to double to more than 10%. This report combines selected chapters from three… -

Partner Country Series - Thailand Electricity Security Assessment
Thailand is a rapidly growing country with a large middle class, and as a result may be undergoing a structural transition, changing the nature and shape of electricity demand in the coming years. Thai energy policy is driven by the three pillars of security, affordability and environmental sustainability. Concerns over fuel diversity underlie all three of these pillars and thus are a major driver of Thailand’s current long-term view of power sector development. Thailand is seeking to diversify its power sector over the next two decades by increasing coal generation and an increase in both domestic and imported…

Medium-Term Oil Market Report 2016
In early 2016 crude oil prices for WTI and Brent fell below $30/bbl for the first time since 2003, having halved in just a few months. In a departure from the past four decades, producers continue to produce and sell what they can, letting the market set the price. Low prices are a major short-term benefit to consumers and will provide a boost to demand growth. But if low prices persist, investments in new supply are cut back – as has been demonstrated recently by a succession of announcements from major companies. Unless the heavily oversupplied oil market can…
