IEA contributions to Brazilian government report cover Covid impacts on energy efficiency and potential emissions reductions in cement sector
The International Energy Agency has joined with the Brazilian government’s energy policy research office to highlight the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis on energy efficiency and to analyse the Brazilian cement sector in a global context. The Energy Research Office (EPE), which supports Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy through studies and research on energy planning, today released its Atlas of Energy Efficiency in Brazil 2020 – Indicators Report. The study tracks progress on energy efficiency in key sectors of the country's economy. This is the EPE’s fourth dedicated energy efficiency monitoring report. This year, a chapter…

New Zealand 2023: Energy Policy Review
Background information The IEA regularly conducts in-depth peer reviews of the energy policies of its member countries. This process supports energy policy development and encourages the exchange of international best practices and experiences to help drive secure and affordable clean energy transitions.New Zealand has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The country enjoys many natural advantages for its energy transition, including an enviable renewable resource base. New Zealand already has a low‑emissions electricity system, with significant production from both hydropower and geothermal, and therefore has an attractive opportunity to…

Oil Supply Security: Emergency Response of IEA Countries 2007
Oil Supply Security: Emergency Response of IEA Countries 2007 When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf of Mexico in 2005, the region’s oil production and refining infrastructure was devastated and world energy markets were disrupted. The International Energy Agency decided in a matter of days to bring 60 million barrels of additional oil to the market. The emergency response system worked – the collective action helped to stabilise global markets. This book describes the oil emergency response systems of IEA countries and assesses how well prepared the IEA is to deal with an oil supply disruption.

How2Guide for Wind Energy
Governments are increasingly looking to diversify their energy mix beyond simply fossil fuels. While wind energy is developing towards a mainstream, competitive and reliable technology, a range of barriers can delay progress, such as financing, grid integration, social acceptance and aspects of planning processes. National and regional technology roadmaps can play a key role in supporting wind energy development and implementation, helping countries to identify priorities and pathways tailored to local resources and markets. Recognising this, the IEA has started the How2Guides – a new series co-ordinated by the International Low-Carbon Energy Technology Platform to address the need for…

Security of Clean Energy Transitions 2022
G 20 Report This report examines the evolving challenges of maintaining energy security in the context of clean energy transitions on the pathway to net zero emissions. The report reflects on the security implications of the triple global crisis, the climate emergency, the global energy crisis and the social and economic implications of the Covid-19 pandemic. The report highlights key energy security concerns during energy transitions and provides governments, notably within the Group of Twenty (G20), with policy recommendations for maintaining and improving energy security, while accelerating clean energy transitions to address the triple crises. In the context of…

Oil and Gas Emergency Policy: The United Kingdom 2010 update
Oil and Gas Emergency Policy: The United Kingdom 2010 update In 2007, the IEA published Oil Supply Security: Emergency Response of IEA Countries. This report provides an overview of the IEA oil emergency response system and a detailed look at the specific systems in each IEA country for responding to an oil supply crisis. The report represented the findings of a five-year review cycle of the emergency response mechanisms in IEA member countries. Since the 2007 publication, the IEA has started a new cycle of reviews which now includes reviewing gas emergency policies. Rather than waiting for the completion…
