Energy Efficiency Policy Recommendations for Latin America and the Caribbean
This publication was prepared by the IEA, with the support of more than 50 energy efficiency experts from Latin America and the Caribbean, together with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC), and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru. The 20 detailed recommendations span five sectors and cover policies ranging from measures to implement mandatory minimum energy performance standards for buildings and appliances, to improve transport system planning and efficiency and promote energy management systems for industry. In Latin America, household expenditure on energy services is second only to food. On average, the share of household budget for energy ranges between 7% and 9% of income – and up to more than 24% for the poorest households. Towards a zero-emission, efficient and resilient buildings and construction sector The GlobalABC Roadmap for Buildings and Construction in Latin America sets out targets and timelines towards achieving zero-emission, efficient and resilient buildings and construction between 2020 and 2050 in Latin America. Clean Energy Transitions Programme 2023
…in several notable achievements, including the announcement of a new set of fuel standards for trucks in Indonesia, the Energy Transition Plan in Uganda and the establishment of regulations for the spot electricity market in China.
