Fuel Economy in Major Car Markets
…Introduction This report builds on a series of Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) working papers investigating the fuel economy of newly registered light-duty vehicles (LDVs) across the world from 2005 to 2017 . The results are tracked relative to established GFEI targets, which are an intermediate target of 30% improvement of new LDV fuel economy, weighted globally, by 2020, and 50% by 2030.The analysis builds on methodological improvements introduced in the previous GFEI report , and it maintains the broad country coverage that has characterised these analyses. Only Norway and Switzerland did not have additional data for 2016 and 2017…

Railway Handbook 2015
Produced in collaboration with the Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer The collaboration of the IEA and the UIC in collecting, elaborating, and presenting activity, energy, and CO2 emissions data was carried out for the fourth time through the release of the Railway Handbook 2015. For this edition, significant methodological improvements were implemented leading to better consistency between the different indicators presented in this Handbook, in addition to updates of the global data, as well as regional breakdowns for those regions that we consider the most relevant from the point of view of transport activity: European Union, USA, Japan, Russia…

Clean Energy Transitions Programme 2023
…improve energy data collection and to develop capacity among policy makers in partner countries. It contributed to the Agency’s role as a key coordinator of the global energy dialogue, as reflected in the many outcomes and mandates that emerged from G20, G7 and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial meetings throughout the year. The programme also helped facilitate the IEA’s engagement with the Presidency of the 28th annual UN climate meeting (COP28) in Dubai and supported the Agency’s ambitious action plan that informed the main outcome of that summit: the first ever global agreement to…

Optimising Russian Natural Gas
Reform and Climate Policy Optimising Russian Natural Gas The world’s largest gas producer and exporter, Russia has an enormous energy saving potential. At least 30 billion cubic meters – a fifth of Russian exports to European OECD countries -- could be saved every year by enhanced technology or energy efficiency. As the era of cheap gas in Russia comes to an end, this potential saving is increasingly important for Russians and importing countries. This book analyses and estimates the potential savings and the associated reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that could be achieved in the oil extraction (flaring), gas transmission and…
