Energy Efficiency Act - Energy Efficiency Standards

Canada's Energy Efficiency Act authorises the introduction of minimum energy efficiency standards to phase out less efficient energy-using equipment and household appliances from the Canadian marketplace. The first regulations under the Act came into force on 3 February 1995. 
Regulations have been established for more than 30 products, including residential energy-using products, electric motors and lighting products. Regulations apply to products that account for over 80% of residential energy demand.

It notably sets minimum energy performance for room, split-system and central air-conditioners from February 1995.
