Mid-2022, the Mexican President announced that an important infrastructure plan would be launched in the State of Sonora. The plan is intended to be finalised in 2028 and encompasses the following projects:

  • the construction of an additional 1 GW solar PV generation capacity, eventually servicing 1.6 million consumers
  • a LNG terminal
  • a grid modernisation and extension component
  • EV plants

The federal government intends to finance the Plan through its SOE (CFE), international debt - notably contracted with the US government, FDI, and a contribution of the local State government for the solar PV component.
