Electricity Mid-Year Update

Global electricity demand continues to grow at a robust rate. As buildings, transport and industry become increasingly electrified, and as the use of air conditioners and data centres expands, electricity is emerging as the backbone of the modern economy.

This Mid-Year Update, which follows the Electricity 2025 report published in February, features the latest data for 2024 and new 2025 and 2026 forecasts for global electricity demand, supply by fuel type, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the power sector. It also analyses the latest developments in major markets, including China, the United States, the European Union and India.
