Designing Energy Efficiency Policies to Enhance Affordability
…on designing energy efficiency policies that support affordability, particularly in the buildings sector. As part of this work, the IEA conducted a survey with G7 governments to better understand the obstacles they face. On the consumer side, major challenges include the landlord-tenant split incentive, high upfront costs and administrative complexity. On the supply side, governments identified skills shortages and difficulties in reaching underserved communities. The report analyses the affordability-focused energy efficiency policies of G7 countries. These include targeted financial support, simplified programme design, strong local delivery models, and better integration with workforce development. Embedding affordability into energy efficiency…

Vehicle-to-grid technology
…EV batteries become flexible assets for energy storage rather than mere loads to the grid. There are varying degrees of flexibility. With unidirectional smart charging (V1G), the charging power can be modulated to align electricity demand with generation profiles or to alleviate grid congestion. With vehicle-to-building (V2H/V2B), the EV can additionally discharge energy for use in a home or building, either to serve as a backup during power outages or to lower electricity bills by leveraging dynamic tariffs and increasing self-consumption of rooftop solar. Finally, V2G technology can push energy from the EV battery into the…

NOM-014-ENER-2004: Energy efficiency of electric motors of alternating current, single phase, induction, squirrel cage type, cooled with air, in nominal power of 0,180 kW to 1,500 kW. Limits, testing method and marking
This standard establishes the minimum energy efficiency levels for motors of alternating current, single-phase, induction, cage type squirrel, air-cooled, in nominal power of 0.180 to 1.5 kW of a single rotation frequency, 2, 4 or 6 poles, split phase or start capacitor, open or closed. See the attachment for the minimum efficiency levels.
The standard NOM-014-ENER-2004 supersedes the standard NOM-014-ENER-1997. The 2004 version sets the level of nominal efficiency for single-phase motor with 6 poles. -

Portugal 2026
…Review was prepared in partnership between the Government of Portugal and the IEA. It draws on the IEA’s extensive knowledge and the inputs of expert peers from IEA Member countries to assess Portugal’s most pressing energy sector challenges and provide recommendations on how to address them, backed by international best practices. The report also highlights areas where Portugal's leadership can serve as an example in promoting secure and clean energy transitions. It also promotes the exchange of best practices among countries to foster learning, build consensus and strengthen political will for a sustainable and affordable energy future.
