10th Basic Energy Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand (2023-2036)

…and Demand establishes a 15-year roadmap (2022-2036) to ensure energy security through a balanced energy mix and large-scale infrastructure investment. The plan prioritises pre-emptive reinforcement of the power grid and the expansion of transmission and substation facilities to integrate volatile renewable sources and new nuclear power. To ensure system reliability during this transition, the plan identifies a critical investment requirement of approximately KRW 45 trillion by 2036 for renewable energy backup facilities, specifically for technologies such as synchronous condensers (to provide grid inertia) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS).A key pillar of the plan is the…

                National Energy Development Strategy

The decision establishes Vietnam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2045, setting an overarching framework for energy security, diversification, and sustainability. It targets total primary energy supply of approximately 150-170 Mtoe by 2030, while increasing the share of renewable energy to around 15-20% of total primary energy supply by 2030 and 65-70% by 2045. The strategy also prioritises reducing reliance on fossil fuels, expanding domestic energy production, and strengthening infrastructure, with the Ministry of Industry and Trade responsible for coordinating implementation.
