Act on resource circulation of electrical and electronic equipment and vehicles (EEEV Act)

…critical raw materials. The EEEV act aims to promote the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and vehicles in order to recover precious and rare metals, and create economic opportunities for recycling technology. The EEEV act extends the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) to the waste electrical and electronic equipment and vehicle products, to better manage the recycling and disposal of related materials. On July 6, 2021, an amendment to the EEEV act was published, including the delegation of the operation of waste resources collection centres, which are facilities for collecting, storing, and recycling used electric vehicle (EV) batteries, to the…

Financial Subsidy Policy for the Promotion and Application of New Energy Vehicles

…Energy Vehicles (NEV) in China. The objective is to further adjust the policy framework to the development of the NEV market and create enabling conditions for further scale up of the NEV market. The five priority areas for improvement comprise of:

                Optimising technical indicators
                Improving subsidy standards
Improving the liquidity and efficiency of funds
Creating a fair environment and enable demand
Strengthening quality supervision to ensure vehicle safety

The notice is accompanied by a list of technical requirements, which lays out the specifications that NEVs must meet in order to qualify for the subsidy support. NEVs covered include, electric vehicles…

What it would take to unlock the next phase of hydrogen growth

Can hydrogen scale up successfully Global hydrogen demand reached 100 Mt in 2024, mainly from refineries, the production of chemicals and the iron and steel sector. Demand grew by almost 2% from 2023, in line with overall energy demand growth. This consumption was almost completely met with hydrogen produced from unabated fossil fuels, using 290 billion cubic metres of natural gas and 90 million tonnes of coal equivalent. However, alternative technologies that can produce low-emissions hydrogen have attracted a lot of interest from governments given their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diversify energy supply, particularly in countries that have a…

                Delivering Sustainable Fuels

Pathways to 2035 Sustainable fuels – including liquid biofuels, biogases, low-emissions hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels – offer multiple benefits for the energy sector. They complement electrification and energy efficiency in energy transitions, and are particularly important for sectors that continue to be reliant on fuel-based solutions such as aviation, shipping, and parts of road transport and industry. Sustainable fuels can also enhance energy security, strengthen environmental sustainability and stimulate economic development, particularly in rural areas. If fully legislated and implemented, current and proposed national and international policies would put the use of sustainable liquid and gaseous fuels on a…

                Carbon-Free Electricity in G20 Countries

Status and the way forward In 2024, the Republic of Korea proposed the Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) Initiative to promote the use of technology-neutral, carbon-free energy to decarbonise the energy sector. In line with this initiative, Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) commissioned this report to analyse the status and prospects of carbon-free energy in the electricity sector in G20 countries, and to provide policy recommendations to advance its progress. The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Korea Energy Economics Institute (KEEi) jointly produced this report.

Sustainable Transport for Georgia: A Roadmap Sustainable transport roadmapSustainable transport roadmap

…2025 Climate Action Plan. Some prospects, such as partnering with global firms to build domestic low-emissions technology capacity, have not yet been realised, but should be considered.Georgia’s strong renewable electricity base, strategic location as a link between Asia and Europe, and skilled workforce create advantages for developing electric battery and vehicle value chains, expanding freight hubs and deep-sea ports, and even potentially producing electrolytic hydrogen and low-emissions hydrogen derivatives for export to the European Union. Partnerships with leaders in EV assembly, mobility and energy storage battery production, as well as recycling, could position Georgia as…
