                Affordability

Multiple benefits of Energy Efficiency 2025 Energy efficiency provides multiple benefits. This page explores affordability. Why is energy efficiency important for affordability? Energy efficiency measures can reduce energy bills for households, decrease energy poverty, and make access to energy services more affordable. Key facts Energy efficiency measures can reduce average household energy bills in advanced economies by up to one-third. In emerging economies, they can also improve access to energy services. For many products, such as refrigerators, highly efficient models use less than half of the energy of inefficient models. A best-in-class model can save up to…

Powering Australia - Electric Car Discount

The federal government's Electric Car Discount (ECD) legislation, exempting battery, fuel cell and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) from fringe benefits tax (FBT) and import tariffs, commenced on 1 January 2023. This policy aimed to to reduce the costs of EVs and thereby increase EV uptake, reducing transport related carbon emissions and fuel use across the light vehicle fleet. On April 2025, the FBT exemption was restricted to zero emissions vehicles only, excluding future PHEV purchases from the program.  In May 2026, the federal government announced future adjustments to the ECD to ensure it remains fiancially sustainable. From…

The Draft Delhi EV Policy 2018, to be notified by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (‘GNCTD’) and which will remain valid for five years from the date of notification, recognises that a new approach is required to kick-start EV adoption in Delhi. It will therefore seek to put in place measures that address the key hurdles to EV adoption. The GNCTD will also develop a communication plan focused on driving awareness regarding the benefits of adopting electric vehicles…
