Hydrogen Society Roadmap
South Africa holds significant advantages for green hydrogen production, including abundant renewable energy resources, existing industrial infrastructure, and access to global shipping routes. Hydrogen could play a key role in decarbonizing the energy system, supporting sectors like transport, industry, and power generation. To promote its use, policy tools such as incentives, public-private partnerships, and regulatory frameworks are essential. Enabling actions are also needed in areas like R&D, skills development, and inclusive participation—particularly in building human capital and ensuring gender equity in the hydrogen economy.
