2023 Low Carbon Economy Fund- Low Carbon Economy Challenge
The Low Carbon Challenge Fund is one of the four funding stream within the Low Carbon Economy Fund. It aims at providing funding to provinces and territories to meet Canada’s 2030 climate goals, in line with their own circumstances., and targets wide range of project holders contributing to the deployment of low-carbon technologies for energy efficient retrofits, fuel switching, clean electricity production, and carbon capture and storage.

Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Coal-fired Generation of Electricity Regulations
In 2018, the Government of Canada announced amendments to the Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Coal-fired Generation of Electricity Regulations (2012) to accelerate the phase-out of conventional coal-fired power generation from 2050 to 2030. The regulations do so by requiring all units to meet a performance standard of 420 t/GWh by December 31, 2029. Owners/operators can achieve the requirements by installing carbon capture equipment, switching to run on natural gas, or shutting down operations. The Government of Canada can negotiate equivalency agreements “with provinces that have regulations capable of achieving equal or better emission…

Hydrogen policy in Wales
In February 2025, the government published a draft policy on hydrogen production, storage, and transport. It supports hydrogen use when it helps decarbonization, meets the Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard, and supports a just transition for communities.
The policy is:
Technology neutral
Focused on absolute emissions
Allows limited fossil-based hydrogen only if it accelerates low-carbon alternatives
It will be integrated into future Planning Policy and Carbon Budgets. -

Canadian Emissions Reduction Innovation Network (CERIN)
The Canadian Emissions Reduction Innovation Network (CERIN) is a collaborative initiative jointly funded by Natural Resources Canada, contributing $6 million, and Alberta Innovates, contributing $4.26 million. CERIN is a pan-Canadian network of researchers and end-users to develop, validate, and deploy technologies to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. The program brings together academia, government and industry test centres, including a fully operational natural gas testing facility, to accelerate technological development and inform protocols and standards for the detection and mitigation of methane emissions.

Thermal Energy Innovation Strategy
The Thermal Energy Innovation Strategy sets the policy direction for decarbonising Korea’s heat sector, which is a major source of final energy demand in buildings, industry and public facilities. It promotes renewable heat, heat pumps, unused heat, heat recovery, national heat mapping and institutional support for clean heat investment. The strategy was announced as part of a public forum to build consensus and refine detailed measures for thermal-energy decarbonisation. It should be understood as a cross-sector heat policy, with strong relevance to building heating and cooling, industrial process heat and district energy.

Auction scheme aligned with investment policy conditions set in Reform 2 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Supported projects must achieve at least 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the reference period. Projects include decarbonisation of steel production via electric arc furnaces and decarbonisation of grey cement production. Coordinated by the National Implementation and Coordination Authority (NIKA).
