Decrees to Increase Energy Efficiency of Boilers
Two decrees were revised in 1998 to increase energy efficiency, both becoming effective in 2000. One imposes minimal thermal efficiency standards for boilers in service when their power production is between 400 kWh and 50 MWh. The second requires periodic inspection of boilers with a capacity greater than 1MW.

Regulations on Thermal Behaviour of Buildings
The Regulations on Characteristics of the Thermal Behaviour of Buildings (RCCTE) address energy consumption levels in buildings defining design rules for all new residential accommodation and services buildings without centralised air conditioning. These Regulations define the requirements for new residential and small service buildings, namely in terms of wall and floor insulation, types of glass coverings and surfaces, limiting heat loss and controlling excessive solar gains. These regulations set limits on the energy requirements for air-conditioning and hot water production, making it compulsory to install solar energy systems and favouring the use of other renewable energy sources.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Deployment Programme
The new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Deployment Programme, managed by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) provides grant support to assist the deployment of small-scale (less than 1MWe) fossil fired CHP and biomass (anaerobic digestion (AD) and wood residue) CHP systems. The programme is open to industrial, commercial, services or public sector organisations based in Ireland, as well as Energy Service Companies (ESCOs). The programme provides grant support for feasibility studies and investments. The Feasibility Study Grant Programme supports studies investigating the application of CHP across all technologies and size ranges greater than 50 kWe. Applications can be for single…
