                Buying Greener: Public Procurement Strategy

Committed to preparing and submitting a public procurement policy to promote low carbon construction and whole life-cycle analysis in public projects.
Public bodies must lead by example from 2023, specifying low carbon methods and materials where practicable. The goal is to reduce embodied carbon in construction materials by at least 30% by 2030. The policy, developed by the Cement Task Force, was due by Q2 2023 and will be monitored through SEAI reporting. Key objectives include using less concrete and cement, specifying lower carbon alternatives, and implementing carbon management in large infrastructure projects.
