The UK CO2 Storage Licensing Regulations is modified by the Storage of Carbon Dioxide (Inspections etc.) Regulations 2012 No. 461 and The Storage of Carbon Dioxide (Amendment and Power to Modify) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 No. 544.
The UK CO2 Storage Licensing Regulations set out the administrative processes and requirements for licensing exploration activities and permitting CO2 injection and storage under the Energy Act 2008, as well as prescribing rights and responsibilities for licence and permit holders in relation to monitoring, reporting, corrective measures, site closure and post-closure obligations. -

- Hydrogen production: cost-effective electrodes, membranes, and biomass-based pathways such as modular reformers.
- Storage and transport: high-capacity materials, low-cost compression, pipeline viability, and liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC).
- Application development: hydrogen refueling, power systems, UAVs, and safety tech like sensors and leak detectors.
Proposals must have a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of at least 4 targeting at least 7 as an outcome of the project.
Academic, government and non-profit applicants can receive up to 100% of the project cost, while private actors can receive up to 80%
