CoalCO2-X
The CoalCO2-X program is a collaborative mechanism co-funding a project involving three German and five South African partners, coordinated by Germany's Fraunhofer Institute. The program focuses on converting CO2 emissions from South Africa's coal-fired power plants into various commodity chemicals and fertilizers using green ammonia and hydrogen. By capturing and transforming CO2 and other pollutants, the program aims to reduce the environmental impact of these power plants and serve as a key enabler for the decarbonization of the chemical and energy sectors. The project is planned to be conducted between September 2022 and August 2025…

Low Emissions Technology Demonstration Fund
The Low Emissions Technology Demonstration Fund (LETDF) supports the demonstration of new, large-scale, low-emissions technologies that indicate significant long-term abatement potential. The fund includes those renewable low-carbon energy technologies that can demonstrate the potential for wide uptake. These technologies must have the potential to lower Australias emissions by at least 2% in the long term at realistic uptake rates, and be commercially available by 2020 to 2030. The fund is designed to facilitate private sector investment of at least AUD1 billion, and provides a path by which industry can invest in a low-emissions future. It…

2050 Net-Zero Roadmap
The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has released a roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions in the energy sector by 2050, centred around solar power but adaptable to future technological shifts. It presents three scenarios: one where rapid advances make solar energy even cheaper and more efficient, potentially reaching a PV capacity of 108 GW; another where hydrogen technology matures and plays a key role; and a third in which the country embraces nuclear power. Each path reflects different trajectories based on policy choices and innovation.
