2050 Net-Zero Roadmap
The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has released a roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions in the energy sector by 2050, centred around solar power but adaptable to future technological shifts. It presents three scenarios: one where rapid advances make solar energy even cheaper and more efficient, potentially reaching a PV capacity of 108 GW; another where hydrogen technology matures and plays a key role; and a third in which the country embraces nuclear power. Each path reflects different trajectories based on policy choices and innovation.

ARPA-E Research Programme, Biofuels
…supported by DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The 15 teams receiving awards through ARPA-E’s “Energy and Carbon Optimized Synthesis for the Bioeconomy” (ECOSynBio) program will work on the following methods - Carbon-optimized fermentation strains that avoid CO2 waste;- Engineered organisms that can use a mix of different sources of energy and carbon, and avoid evolving CO2;- Biomass-derived sugar or carbon oxide gas fermentation with internal CO2 recycling;- Cell-free carbon-optimized biocatalytic biomass conversion and/or CO2 use; - Cross-cutting carbon-optimized bioconversion methods that have the potential for high-impact emissions reductions.

Hydrogen BECCS Innovation Programme
The Hydrogen BECCS Innovation Programme supports technologies which can produce hydrogen from biogenic feedstocks and be combined with carbon capture. It forms part of the GBP 1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, which aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative clean energy technologies and processes through the 2020s and 2030s. The programme is in 2 phases: Phase 1 (GBP 5 million) supports multiple projects to scope and develop a feasible prototype demonstration project. In August 2022, 22 projects were selected under Phase 1. Phase 2 (GBP 25 million) takes projects from innovation design through to innovation demonstration.

Jet Zero Council - Emissions Reduction in the Heavy Industry
From the GBP 350 million package to fuel green recovery and cut emissions in heavy industry, GBP 139 million will be used to cut emissions by supporting the transition from natural gas to clean hydrogen power, and scaling up carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. These measures can stop over 90% of emissions being released from industrial plants into the air by storing carbon permanently underground
