Electricity market liberalisation
On 18 June 2008 the European Parliament voted on provisions unbundling the European internal energy market. The Parliament also authorised national authorities to require system operators to give priority to generating installations using renewable energy sources or waste or producing combined heat and power-- except when the safety and reliability of the grid is compromised. Member States may also require that electricity revenues from domestic consumers be spent to fund energy efficiency.
