Colombia's Mining Traceability and Transaction Control System

Colombia's Minerals Traceability System, established by Decree 2234 of 2023 and implemented through Resolution 759 of 2024, creates a comprehensive digital platform to track mineral transactions, verify legal origins, and monitor production volumes across the nation's mining sector. In response to concerns about illegal mining and mineral trading, the Ministry of Mines and Energy issued Decree 2234 in December 2023, followed by the National Mining Agency's Resolution 759 in October 2024. This regulatory framework builds upon existing structures like RUCOM (Unified Registry of Mineral Traders) and GENESIS (subsistence miners registry) to create an integrated digital ecosystem for…

Colombia's Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy is part of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition's (CCAC) “Support for National Action Planning” initiative. This strategy identifies actions towards addressing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) and that should be addressed through the planning and implementation of domestic policies. As part of the actions to the mitigation of SLCP, the oil and gas and mining sector are included. Concrete actions are: 1.       To recover, use and oxidize methane from coal mines2.       To recover and use the gas and fugitive emissions during the production of oil and gas3.       To reduce the leaks…

                Renewables 2021 BiofuelsBiofuels

…case. Biofuels recover in 2021 despite high costs Rising prices are slowing biofuels’ growth, but according to our forecast, demand in 2021 nevertheless recovers from the lows seen in 2020 during the Covid-19 crisis. Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Indonesia are managing climbing feedstock and biofuel costs by temporarily reducing or delaying blending mandates. We estimate these actions to reduce demand by 3%, or 5 billion litres, in 2021 compared to a scenario where mandates remained unchanged or were increased as planned. By August 2021 biofuel prices had increased by between 70% and 150% across the United States, Europe, Brazil…
