                National CER Roadmap

…and plan to unlock CER at scale across Australia. The roadmap's implementation plan outlines priority reforms through four workstreams: consumers, technology, markets, power system operations. The roadmap provides a national approach to reforms to ensure Australians are able to harness the full potential of CER. If consumer resources are coordinated effectively, they can help lower costs for all consumers by offsetting the need for billions of dollars in grid-scale investment. The Energy Ministers agreed to the development of the roadmap in November 2023. The CER Working Group, made up of state and territory government officials, produced the roadmap.

The Mission-Centric Strategic Roadmap for Critical and Emerging Technologies identifies clear priorities for pan-government policies on R&D of strategic technologies to secure strategic advantages. It lists 16 key technologies where a fierce race for technological supremacy is taking place, including secondary batteries, advanced mobility, next-generation nuclear energy, advanced biotechnology, aerospace and marine technologies, and hydrogen. The roadmap also outlines mission strategies to be achieved by 2030 for these identified technologies, focusing on R&D investment milestones, international cooperation, talent acquisition, and improvement.
