Renewable Gas Auction
In May 2024, the Portuguese government launched an auction for the centralized purchase of clean hydrogen and biomethane produced by electrolysis of water using electricity from renewable energy sources. It will be composed of two parcels: 150 GWh/year of biomethane; and 120 GWh/year of hydrogen.The results of the competitive procedure were published in February 2025.

Gas price control measures
In response to the global energy price crisis, the Polish government enacted measures to ensure consumers benefit from the lowest price applicable to their respective gas supply contracts, from 1 January to 31 December 2022.In addition, gas prices and tariff rates of gaseous fuels cannot be increased in 2022. Gas sellers who fail to comply with the obligation to apply the regulation will be fined. The measure, initially enacted until 2023, is extended until 2027.

Malaysia-Qatar Comprehensive Economic Cooperation
On June 1 2023, the Malaysian Government through the Ministry of Economy announced opportunities for cooperation with the Qatari Government. Trading partners from the Gulf region (Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE) and the international investor community reacted very positively to this effort.The Malaysian government has announced several key policies such as allowing cross-border renewable energy trade, establishing regional markets for the purchase and sale of renewable energy, and doubling the renewable energy generation capacity target to 70% of total energy generation capacity by 2050.

Temporary fuel tax reductions & price regulation

Centralized purchase of hydrogen and biomethane program
€140 million. Portugal's centralized purchase program for hydrogen and biomethane, announced by the Minister for the Environment and Energy, involves an electronic auction managed by the Wholesale Supplier of Last Resort (CURg). The auction aims to purchase 150 GWh/year of biomethane at €62/MWh and 120 GWh/year of hydrogen at €127/MWh, The program's goals are to boost renewable gas production, integrate these gases into the National Gas System, and support the country's decarbonization efforts towards a zero net emissions economy.

New Gas Act
The new law for natural gas sector approving the reform of the sector. The reform focuses on transport and distribution operators unbundling and natural gas market opening. The objective is to develop an open, dynamic, and competitive natural gas market, to increase competition in gas-fired thermoelectric generation, to make the national industry competitive in its different segments, to replace other fuels that emit more GHG. The new law also allows biomethane to have the same treatment as natural gas.

Fuel Oil Price Mitigation Programme
Japan’s Fuel Oil Price Mitigation Programme provides subsidies to fuel wholesalers and importers to limit increases in retail prices of gasoline, diesel, kerosene, heavy fuel oil and aviation fuel. Introduced in January 2022, the scheme initially provided subsidies of up to approximately ¥5/L when gasoline prices exceeded a benchmark of around ¥170/L, before being expanded in 2022 with subsidy caps raised to around ¥25-35/L as global oil prices surged.
