Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA)
The Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) entered into force on 15 January 2015. The treaty grants tariff-free status to the following products: iron, alumina, metals, ammonia, steel, aluminium, nitrogen fertilizers, battery packs and cells, anodes, electric cars, and internal combustion engine cars. Clean technologies and their components not listed are not included in the Schedule for Elimination on Reduction of Customs Duties of Japan.In addition to this Agreement, bilateral trade policy between these two countries is also subject to the Japan‑Australia Partnership on Decarbonisation through Technology. Federal government/ South Australian Energy and Emissions Reduction Deal
The Australian government and South Australian government agreed on the State Energy and Emissions Reduction Deal. This deal grants AUD 1.08 billion to add additional secure, affordable and low carbon energy generation capacity to the grid, and reach the Paris Agreement targets. The Mining Act of 1978 consolidates law relating to mining in Western Australia. The South Australia Mining Act provides the framework for regulating the mineral exploration and mining sectors in the state.All applications for mineral exploration and exploitation must include an assessment of the expected environmental effects of the enterprise, along with a statement of planned measures to remedy environmental damage. Section 63 establishes the Extractive Areas Rehabilitation Fund as a part of the royalties recovered by the Minister on extractive minerals.
